The effects of an organic nucleating agent on the crystallization behaviour and mechanical properties of poly(propylene) were investigated. As the concentration of nucleating agent increased from 0 to 0.8%, the tensile and flexural strengths of the nucleated poly(propylene) resin increased by 15%, the flexural modulus increased by 35%, the crystallization peak temperature increased by 10°C, and the nucleation density (calculated with the nonlinear Voltrra integral equation) increased by 106 times. Mechanical properties increased with nucleation density.

Example of organic –

 An Organic Nucleating Agent is 1,3:2,4-bis(3,4-dimethylbenzylidene) sorbitol. The addition of approximately 0.05 to 1 wt % CDA into PE has resulted in physical property improvements such as clarity, and shrinkage reduction. 1,3:2,4-bis(3,4-dimethylbenzylidene) sorbitol has most effective organic nucleating agent.
